The greatness of Oaxaca is not only in the capitol. The neighboring
villages also have rich Archeological Sites, architecture from Colonial
times and the Porfiriato, Community Museums and handcrafts.
Here you have several routes:
SIERRA JUAREZ ROUTE
San Pablo Guelatao
It is located 55 kilometers from Oaxaca City on Highway 175 towards
Tuxtepec.
This town is the birthplace of Benito
Juárez, a remarkable man in Mexican History. The name of
this town means small lagoon,
and by the bank of that lagoon is a stone and bronze monument of
Juárez as a shepherd with his mother Brígida García de Juárez.
Ixtlán de Juárez
3 kilometers from San Pablo Guelatao, this small place has a 17th
century chirrigueresque church, dedicated to Saint Thomas.
It has a beautiful pink stone portico, an engraved stone font and
fine, carved wooden altarpieces. We suggest you visit on a Monday
because of the tianguis (a typical market) which is full of people
from the surrounding towns who come to sell their products there.

Capulalpan de Méndez
This beautiful spot in the Sierra Juárez is 10 kilometers from Ixtlán.
The magnificent 17th century church of Baroque and Neoclassic style
has many altarpieces from different periods, all exquisite.
Wool textiles such as blankets and jorongos and beautiful embroided
dresses are made here.
