The dates July 27, 28 & 29, mark a significant event in Oaxaca,
known as Oaxaca Estudio Abierto, designed to promote interaction
between local artists and those members of the public interested
in creative endeavors. On July 28th, between 10 am and 8 pm, painters,
sculptors, ceramicists and photographers will be opening their studios
or workshops to exhibit their art.
Oscar
Carrizosa, coordinator of the event for the second consecutive
year, has emphasized that its purpose will be “to showcase
the artists and where they work, and while their studios and workshops
are open to the public those interested will have and opportunity
to speak and interact with them, with a view to learning more about
where and how such reknowned artistry has brought fame to the state”.
Carrizosa continued: “Oaxaca Estudio Abierto is a unique
and enjoyable format by which to appreciate art, meet the artists,
explore various neighborhoods in Oaxaca and acquire pieces for one’s
own collection”.
The inaugural event of Oaxaca Estudio Abierto will take place on
July 27th at 7 pm, at the Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños,
were there will be a colective exhibition and a silent auction
On July 28th, from 10 am to 8 pm in the evening, the artists will
open their studios to the public. Downtown historical center will
be divided in four different areas and depending of the area it
will be a different schedule for the artists to open their studios.
On July 28th at 10 am a guided tour will leave from Casa Crespo,
Crespo 415, and at 4 pm from Museo de los Pintores Oaxaqueños,
García Vigil at Independencia. On the 29nd of July, at 10
am a guided tour will leave, from Casa
Crespo at 10 am, for San Agustín, Etla to vist artists´
studios, the paper workshop and the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín.

The program will also facilitate an interchange between
artists, residents and visitors, so as to attempt to create liaisons
for the continued development of artistic endeavor.
Those interested in participating in the event will
have an opportunity to learn and better understand the creative
artistry of, amongst others: Abelardo López, Fernando Andriacci,
Justina Fuentes, Laurie Litowitz, Demetrio Polgovsky, Marta Jorio,
Oscar Carrizosa, Rodolfo G. Feria, Jonathan Barbieri, Rolando Rojas,
Guillermo Roel, Juan Alcázar, Guillermo Olguín, Mauricio
Cervantes, Lorena Montes, Demetrio Barrita, students and teachers
of Rufino Tamayo workshop, Sara Corenstein, Miriam Ladrón
de Guevara, Raúl Herrera, Raúl Soruco, Marco Bustamante,
Arnulfo Mendoza, Virgilio Santaella, Guillermo Brena, Luis Ríos,
Misael Méndez, María Luisa de Villa, Efeo Pérez,
Josefa García, Saúl Castro, Eddie Martínez,
Felipe Morales, Amador Montes, María Rosa Astorga, Gabriela
León, María Campiglia, Gabriel Coto, Adán Paredes,
Antonio Turok, Valeria Campos, Alejandra Villegas and Cristina Luna.
Each day, at night fall, our tour concludes with a
very special invitation to join this select group of artists for
a soirée at Oaxaca´s favorite bohemian haunt, El
Salón Central, Hidalgo 302 at 10 pm. Don´t miss
it! First round is free.
In addition, Carrizosa has stated that to help facilitate
encounters between artists and the public, maps will be distributed
showing the location of workshops which are in the downtown core,
in Jalatlaco and in Xochimilco. They’ll be available from
the city’s tourist information booths and main museums.
